Oak Grove Retreats is part of Doldowlod Old Station Caravan Park: a small quiet, well managed park on the River Wye located 3
miles south of Rhayader and 4.5 miles from the Elan Valley Visitor
Centre. It is a perfect location from which to explore the unspoiled
beauty of the Cambrian Mountains in Mid wales.

The setting below is located just 100 yards across a meadow path from our reception cabin.
Bushcraft expert and TV presenter, Ray Mears traveled the length of the Wye in August 2015 making his documentary "Wild River". He describes the Cambrian Mountains area of Mid Wales as "some of the wildest lands in Britain" and he said he felt "inspired by the wonderful wildlife and stunning scenery of this area".

Described by BBC Spring Watch's Iolo Williams as "Wales's last true wilderness," the Cambrian Mountains are the hidden heart of beautiful Mid Wales. This is the gateway to the spectacular Elan Valley, an area which has come to be known as the "Welsh Lake-land"
whilst the area around our local market town of Rhayader is known as "The Wildslife Centre of Wales".

This lovely Old Railway Station site has several original features. Our 1920's Cambrian Railway Box Carriage has been converted to a high standard whilst our 1940's Guards Van has been restored but left with it's original features.Both are available for self-catering holiday hire. Oak Grove Retreats provides the perfect base for all lovers of the countryside: walkers, bird-watchers, cyclists, anglers and of course those who just want to enjoy a peaceful stay. If you like the lake district, you'll love it here, guests tell us that it's like the Cumbrian Fells without the crowds!

Oak Grove Retreats offers 3 static caravans for holiday hire, minimum stay 2 nights. The Rimini and Celtica have two bedrooms and the Westmoreland has three. All are fully set-up with everything you need to self cater including fridge, microwave, full size cooker, free-view flat-screen TV, central or blow air heating in all rooms, double-glazing, shower &WC and out-side furniture.

Dark Skies: This is an International Dark Skies Park. The skies here are special: the Elan Valley and it's surrounding area is one of only 2 destinations in the UK (6 in the world) with international dark sky park status. On a dark, clear night you can see over a 1,000 stars stretching across the sky. To lessen light pollution and give you a better view of the stars we do not have "street" lighting around the park: please remember to bring a torch with you.
Convenience We are well placed for many attractions and there is a local store, petrol station and cafe just 500 yards away. There are also pubs and restaurants plus a launderette 3 miles away in the pretty market town of Rhayader. For more details see our "LOCAL SERVICES" page.

Doldowlod's Old Station Caravan Park is just 2 miles from the renowned Red Kite Feeding Centre, 3 miles from the quaint market town of Rhayader and 5 miles from the Elan Valley Visitor Centre. Hay on Wye, famous for it's books and annual festival is just a 40 minute drive away whilst the Victorian Spa town of Llandrindod Wells is 9 miles by road. We are 9.5 miles (just 12 minutes drive) from Builth Wells, home to the Royal Welsh showground and 40 minutes from the west Wales coast.
